Split’s ‘Days of Matejuska’
Every June, the little waterfront area of Matejuška, just a couple of minutes from Studio Loza, holds it’s own festival called ‘Days of Matejuška’ involving local wine, grilled sardines and Dalmatian music.
This little cove, which now seems like an extension of the Riva, was originally where fishermen living in the houses around Studio Loza would get into their boats and go off in search of sardines. Today Matejuška and the Fish market in Marmontova are the only remaining elements in the centre of Split of the city’s long fishing tradition, with many smaller fishing boats still mooring up at Matejuška having unloaded their catch for sale at the Fish Market.
